Graveside services for Margaret June McMillin, 80, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. McMillin died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.
She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of L. Lloyd and Ethel B. (Coonrod) Gaines. She moved to Lawrence in 1937 and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School. She attended Kansas University.
Mrs. McMillin had worked as a clerk in the Douglas County Clerk's Office, and had also managed both the Alley Shop and Attic Shop. She had also worked as a receptionist and political adviser for Congressman Newell George in Washington, D.C. She was active in the Democratic Party and was a former delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
She was a member of Epsilon Master of Beta Sigma Phi, and an alumna of Alpha Delta Pi at KU. She was a member of First Christian Church.
She married Eugene S. McMillin on Oct. 12, 1940, in Oskaloosa. He died Nov. 19, 1952.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol J. Hacker, Lawrence; a son, Daniel A. McMillin, Topeka; three sisters, Marjorie E. McCardell, Newton, Iowa, Beverly A. "Boo" Gibson, Jewell, and Rosemary Nelson, Salina; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
