The future bride graduated from Salina South High School in 1991. She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Kansas University in 1996 and a master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1997. She is program supervisor for Kansas Children's Service League's Healthy Families Olathe program and a state trainer for the Healthy Families program.

The future groom is the son of Oather and Cheryl Strawderman, Wichita. He graduated from Wichita South High School in 1992. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from KU in 1996. He is a physics/chemistry teacher at Free State High School.

The couple plan a March 17 wedding at Danforth Chapel on KU's campus in Lawrence.

Friberg-Demarest

Mr. and Mrs. James Friberg, Baldwin, announce the engagement of their daughter, Deborah Michelle Friberg, to Eric Michael Demarest.

The future bride is a 1994 graduate of Baldwin High School and a 1998 graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. She earned a master's degree from Baker University's School of Professional and Graduate Studies in May 2000. She teaches in the Lawrence school district.

The future groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Demarest, Lawrence. He is a 1997 graduate of Baldwin High School. He is a senior at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, Wheaton, Ill., where he is majoring in music composition.

The couple plan a June 9 wedding at College Church of the Nazarene, Olathe.

Ryan-Newton

Tom and Pat Ryan, Johnson, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Ryan, Johnson, to Bill Newton, Lawrence.

The future bride graduated from Stanton County High School in Johnson. She earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Kansas University. She is employed by B.A.B.I.E.S. Early Intervention program in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The future groom is the son of Bob and Pat Newton, Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas University. He is an assistant media relations director at Wake Forest University.

The couple plan an April 28 wedding at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Lawrence.

Lighthipe-Sebree

Rodney and Joanna Lighthipe, Villa Park, Calif., announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie Nicole Lighthipe, to Jeffrey Ryan Sebree, both of Omaha, Neb.

The future bride graduated from Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, Calif. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Creighton University, Omaha. She is a fourth-grade teacher.

The future groom is the son of Robert and Regina Sebree, Tecumseh. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. He earned a degree in finance and marketing from Creighton University. He is corporate auditor for Union Pacific Corporation.

The couple plan a July 21 wedding in Orange County, Calif.
