— Shawnee Mission Miege, No. 1 in Class 5A, rolled to a 65-35 victory over Lawrence High in girls basketball on Monday, snapping the Lions' two-game winning streak.

"They move the ball as well as any team I've seen," LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. "They're very well coached. (Terry English) definitely had them ready to play."

The Lions trailed Miege 21-5 after one quarter and 42-14 at halftime.

"We were breaking the press OK, but we turning the ball over," Mallory said. "I think their pressure defense caused us to struggle a little bit."

Leigh DeBiasse scored eight points and Mandy Amyx five to pace the Lions (2-2).

Next for LHS is a road game at Free State on Dec. 20.
