Lawrence police Saturday arrested a 19-year-old Lawrence man after he apparently struck an acquaintance in the head with a nail-studded two-by-four. The victim told police that he and the suspect had been feuding, Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said. The suspect showed up between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the victim's apartment in the 1300 block of New Jersey Street and kicked in the door. The victim said the suspect had a knife but dropped it. However, he found a two-by-four with nails sticking out of it and hit the victim in the head three times. The victim was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect was booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated robbery and criminal damage to property.
Lawrence Police are investigating a reported armed robbery. A Lawrence man and woman reported Saturday that another Lawrence woman a friend with whom they'd spent the day robbed them at knifepoint around 9 p.m. at their home in the 100 block of Pinecone Drive, Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said. The apparent victims told police they gave the woman $400 while her father waited in the car outside. The accused tell a different story, Hubbel said. They admit to spending the day with the couple but said they dropped them off and returned later to pick up $50 that the couple owed them. When the couple said they didn't have the money, the woman told police she and her father left without taking anything. The report will be forwarded to the investigative division.
