Holiday takes patriotic turn

December 9, 2001

Beyond red, white and blue lights and ornaments, you will find both tacky and beautiful patriotic gifts this holiday season.

Among them? Fabriche flag-draped angel tree-toppers; patriotic holiday note pads; holiday plaques that say "God Bless America," military ornaments and dolls.

One online store,, sells patriotic reading glasses ($19.95) and Christmas cards with a drawing of the United States on the front and the sentiment inside, "At This Season We Stand United." The cards are 18 for $18.

The Bradford Exchange ( ) advertises an 8-inch-high sculpture called "On Freedom's Wings."

The $39.95 assemblage is "hand crafted and hand painted" and combines a picture of the Statue of Liberty, the flag and a model of an eagle clutching a flag in its talons. It is the company's most subtle offering.
