Background

County commissioners at their Monday meeting are scheduled to appoint one of themselves to serve on a new city of Lawrence committee that will evaluate future tax abatement requests.

Bottom Line

The committee, called the Public Incentives Review Committee, was created as part of the city's new tax abatement policy earlier this year. The committee includes at least one elected representative from the city, county and school district, in addition to a financial adviser and members from the public at large.

The committee will meet each time a company requests a tax abatement and make a recommendation to the city commission to approve or deny the abatement.
