Unitarian Fellowship marks 40th anniversary

Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship Hall, 1263 N. 1100 Road. The hall will be rededicated during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Members who were present 40 years ago will be recognized, as well as fellowship leaders. Eldon Fields, 1961 chairman, will read the words that he read during the original dedication.

Unity presents life workshop

Cheryl Miller will lead "Discovering How to Live in Balance" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Church of Lawrence, 416 Lincoln St.

Miller will suggest ways to deal with the stresses of everyday life.

A suggested offering of $5 to $10 is requested. To register, call the church office at 841-1447.

St. Nicholas to visit St. Margaret's

St. Nicholas will visit children during the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday services at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

The congregation will decorate the church during the annual Hanging of the Greens at 7 p.m. Sunday. Snacks will be provided.

Corpus Christi helps others during holiday

Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., is sponsoring a Giving Tree for needy people this holiday season. The church is collecting unwrapped gifts with tags attached by Dec. 13.

A Lessons in Carols service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 16.

Calvary service features Christmas music

The choir will present Christmas music during the 6:30 p.m. Sunday service at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace.

Women's ministries will not meet this month.

Heartland offers auction, movie night

Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt., will present a silent auction and movie night Sunday. Funds from the event will go toward the senior high youth group's Spring Break mission trip to Mexico.

The auction begins at 6 p.m. It will be followed by "It's a Wonderful Life" at 7 p.m. Desserts will be for sale.

Heartland is expanding hours for its free family practice medical care for the uninsured.

In addition to serving patients from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, the clinic will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays.

St. John's plans holiday liturgies

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., will offer holiday liturgies for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception at 5:30 p.m. today and at 8 a.m. and noon Saturday.

Liturgies for the second Sunday of Advent will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Advent Taize prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Fridays at St. John's.

Evening prayer will be at 6:15 p.m. each Sunday during Advent, including 15 minutes of song, psalms, a canticle and more.

Volunteers are needed at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 to help decorate the parish hall for the party following the Saturday morning liturgy. Mass for the observance of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 15. The celebration continues afterward in the parish hall.

The children of First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will present "And the Sheep Will Follow" at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 16.

Center schedules Hanukkah dinner

The annual Hanukkah dinner and celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive.

Those attending can bring homemade menorahs for a contest after dinner.

For reservations, call the center at 841-7636. Rabbi Judith Beiner will join the community for services at 7:45 p.m.

Zen center marks Enlightenment Week

The Kansas Zen Center continues to celebrate Buddha's Enlightenment Week.

Candlelight Kido is at 6:30 p.m. today at the center, 1423 N.Y. Saturday events include practice from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and a potluck dinner at 6 p.m.

Sunday is Buddha's Enlightenment Day. It will be celebrated with practice from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. ceremony.

The children's Christmas program, "Free Gift," will be presented at 10 a.m. Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

Clearfield Church slates Christmas open house

Eudora Clearfield United Methodist Church will celebrate its heritage with German Fest 2001, a traditional Christmas open house featuring a bratwurst dinner, an authentic German Christmas tree and choir music.

Trinity Episcopal offers healing workshop

The Rev. Bill Beachy will present a healing prayer workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Beachy, a physician and Episcopal priest, will discuss praying for healing. Rolls and coffee will be served at 8:30 a.m. A brown-bag lunch will be served at noon.

The search committee will present Sunday's Adult Forum at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall. They will share information about the process of searching for a new rector.

First Nazarene choir presents holiday music

The adult choir at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road., will present "Joy: A Soulful Celebration of the Season" at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Plymouth plans prayer vigil

The chancel choir will present special music during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

A prayer vigil for those lost on Sept. 11 and at Pearl Harbor will be held from 6 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Saturday.

First United Methodist to present musical

"A Night for Dancing," a children's musical by Hal Hopson, will be presented during all three worship services Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. The musical is an adaptation of Isaiah 11:6.

On Wednesday, a special Advent Communion Service will be at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Organ music will be perform during the sharing of bread and juice.
