To the editor:
As a member of Lawrence's Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC), I thought I should write to clear up some misconceptions about a recent J-W article on downtown bicycle parking. In the article, the J-W states that the BAC has recommended "metered bicycle parking" for Downtown Lawrence. Many people have misread this to mean "paying for bicycle parking" downtown.
In truth, the BAC is investigating methods for locking bicycles to existing parking meters (while not inhibiting pedestrian traffic around the meter). Hopefully, this would provide ample parking for bicycles downtown. Simply put, "metered bicycle parking" in the BAC's eyes means "parking at the meters," not plunking in a quarter to park your bike downtown.
