Jordan sends regrets to San Antonio fans

San Antonio Michael Jordan needs to rest his knee, and he sends his regrets to San Antonio's fans.

"Every time I've come here people have been very, very respectful," he said. "But I have to look at the bigger picture, obviously."

Jordan shot a little during the Washington Wizards' afternoon shootaround but sat out Tuesday night's game against the Spurs because of a knee injury. Some fans paid hundreds of dollars for one of the 34,000-plus tickets to see the Wizards' only game in San Antonio this season.

"I wish I could just push the button and make everything OK and come on out and play," he said. "But I have to recover and come back and play the next game and finish out the season. The doctors suggested this is a time when I have to rest my body."

Brashear gets probation for assault charge

Vancouver, British Columbia Vancouver Canucks tough guy Donald Brashear received six months of probation Tuesday for grabbing a man by the throat in an off-ice fight. Brashear pleaded guilty to common assault on Oct. 30, resulting from a brief altercation in the gym of his luxury townhouse complex Nov. 27, 2000.

Judge Jack McGivern called it an isolated incident and noted Brashear had no previous convictions.

"I'm satisfied that it's in your best interest and not contrary to the public interest to grant a conditional discharge," McGivern said.

Before he was sentenced, Brashear told the court what he did was "really wrong."

"I definitely know how to react in the future," he said. "It's not the perception I want to give to my family and kids."
