Mark Mangino, Oklahoma's assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, will be named Kansas University's head football coach today, the Journal-World has learned.

A 45-year-old native of New Castle, Pa., Mangino is expected to be introduced at a press conference this afternoon as the replacement for Terry Allen, who was relieved of his KU head-coaching duties with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Mangino who issued a statement Saturday saying he had withdrawn his name from the KU search has been at OU the past three seasons, and helped coach the Sooners to last year's national championship.

Prior to his Oklahoma stint, Mangino served for eight seasons as assistant at Kansas State and had a hand in the Wildcats' remarkable turnaround.
