Tipsters led to the arrest late Friday of a man suspected of lewd behavior toward women in southern Douglas County, Sheriff Rick Trapp said Monday.
The 44-year-old suspect was arrested by Douglas County Sheriff's officers at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Ottawa, Trapp said. Franklin County officers brought the man to their office and then contacted Douglas County officers.
The suspect, who lives in northern Franklin County, was booked into the Douglas County Jail early Saturday but was later released on $500 bond. He is to appear at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 in Douglas County Court.
Charges are pending while investigative reports are being completed, Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney said.
Two calls, one to the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline and one made directly to a sheriff's detective, are credited with helping investigators locate the man thought to be responsible for three lewd and lascivious incidents dating back to May, Trapp said.
Here's a list of the alleged incidents:
May 4, a man exposed himself to a woman in the 300 section of East 1000 Road.
July 16, a man exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl at a roadside mailbox in the 900 section of North 400 Road.
Aug. 21, a man made a lewd comment to a woman and tried to get into a house in the 600 section of East 715 Road.
Sheriff's officers were informed of a fourth incident but the victim did not want to file a complaint, Trapp said.
Police received several calls offering information about the incidents and suspect after media reports of the incidents.
"The people were very interested in this," Trapp said. "Our detectives worked on this quite extensively."
