Art auction benefits KC foundation

Kansas City, Mo. Mike Savage, John Martin and Charlie Podrebarac are among the Kansas City artists who have contributed work to the fourth annual Bounce Back Ball art auction.

The auction will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Uptown Theatre, 3700 Broadway. The black-tie event will include a buffet, silent auction and live auction.

More than 100 artworks, cultural and athletic tickets, dinners, getaway weekends and sporting activities will be auctioned.

Proceeds go to Rick's Place, a Kansas City foundation providing assistance to marketing communications and graphic arts professionals.

JCCC ensembles seeking musicians

Overland Park Johnson County Community College is seeking musicians for three ensembles: a jazz ensemble, a wind ensemble and a brass choir.

Auditions are by appointment Tuesday through Friday. Rehearsals begin after Labor Day.

The jazz ensemble, conducted by Kerry Strayer, JCCC adjunct associate professor of music, will rehearse Monday nights. The group is for brass and woodwind players who play big band music.

The wind ensemble, conducted by Ron Stinson, JCCC assistant professor of music, will meet Wednesday nights. The group will perform concert band and wind ensemble selections, including polkas, marches and overtures.

The brass choir, conducted by Stinson, will rehearse Sunday afternoons. The musicians will play traditional and new music written for brass instruments.

Antique appraisal to help arts council

Baldwin "Diamonds in the Rough," an informal appraisal of antiques, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Baldwin City Library.

David Solomons, an accredited appraiser, will give estimates of the value of items. He operates Solomons Antique Gallery in downtown Baldwin.

Tickets are $10 for one item and $25 for three items. Tickets are available at Solomons Antique Gallery, Discoveries and C. Designs Flower Shop.

Proceeds will benefit the Baldwin Community Arts Council and its programs.
