Maria Elena Buszek and Torry Akins, both of Los Angeles, were married Aug. 4, 2001, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence with the Revs. G. Ted Bohr and Charles Polifka officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Maria Josefa and Jerome Buszek, Olathe. The groom is the son of Judith and Terry Akins, Middlebury, Ind.
A reception followed at Liberty Hall.
The bride is a professor of art history at Santa Monica College, Santa Monica, Calif. The groom is an electrical engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Pasadena, Calif.
The couple resides in Los Angeles.
Doris Ziegler and Lt. Col. Gordon Longabach, both of Lawrence, were married Aug. 10, 2001, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with the Revs. Jim Shaughnessy and Tod Ziegler officiating.
Matron of honor was Cheryl Heck. Best man was Clay Comfort.
The bride was escorted by Sid Ziegler. Gary Ziegler, Michael Heck and Joe Marzluff were readers. Offertory gifts were presented by Debbie Ziegler, Madison Heck, Jessie Heck and Paige Ziegler.
A reception followed at the Lawrence Country Club.
The bride is a graduate of Olpe High School, Olpe. She graduated from Butler County Community College, El Dorado, and Emporia State University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in education. The bride has owned and operated retail sales shops in the Lawrence community since 1993.
The groom is a graduate of Arkansas City High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Pittsburg State University and a master's degree from Kansas State University. He is a graduate of Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth. After retiring from the military, he was a Realtor for Stephens Realty. He also was employed as a home builder until retiring in 1994.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
