The Lawrence 99er Duplicate Bridge Club's Aug. 1 game used the Mitchell movement and was stratified and directed by Don Brennaman.

North-South winners were led by Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton, followed by Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges. Harry Talley and Don Daugherty placed third, followed by Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth.

East-West winners were led by Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd, followed by Mary Boyden and Miriam Baur. Barbara McCorkle and Richard Moore placed third, followed by Harriett Olson and Artie Shaw.



The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club's Aug. 3 game used the Mitchell movement and was stratified and directed by Don Brennaman.

North-South winners were led by Harry Shaffer and James Gunn, followed by Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn. Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld placed third, followed by Yvonne Hedges and Betty Collier.

East-West winners were led by Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell, followed by Don Daugherty and Harry Talley. Mildred Linley and Patt Radford placed third, followed by Bebe Huxtable and Wanda Edmonds. Emily Foster and Don Brennaman placed third in the C session.



The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club's Aug. 6 game used the Mitchell movement and was stratified and directed by Virginia Seaver.

North-South winners were led by Dave Piro and Robert Solick, followed by Jerry Sloan and Lester Dalton. Don Brennaman and Bill Hamilton placed third, followed by Bill Schutzel and Patt Radford. Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld placed second in the B session.

East-West winners were led by Virginia Seaver and Julia Brooks, followed by Donna Johnson and Paul Heitzman. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed third, followed by Harry Talley and Don Daugherty. Lois Clark and Nita Scales placed second in the B session.

Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton placed first. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley tied for second place with Betty Spalsbury and Vera Mingos. Bebe Huxtable and Wanda Edmonds placed fourth, followed by Don Brennaman and Julie Ward. John Gilbert and Judy Bevan placed sixth.



The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club's Aug. 13 game was used as a club qualifying round for the North American Open Pairs competition. The game was a Mitchell movement, stratified and directed by Virginia Seaver.

North-South qualifiers were James Gunn and Harry Shaffer, followed by Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton. Sally Taylor and Shirlie Vaughn placed third, followed by Chris Lane and Klee Zaricky.

Other qualifiers in the A session were Dave Piro and Robert Solick. Gladys Turner and Max Turner qualified in the C session.

East-West qualifiers were Donna Munson and Mary Fenlon, followed by Michael Blumenfeld and Cathy Blumenfeld. Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman placed third, followed by Judy Bevan and Linda Heavin.

Other qualifiers in the B session were Jerry Sloan and Julia Brooks, and Patt Radford and Mildred Linley. Qualifiers in the C session were Jeff Rees and Don Shea, followed by Bebe Huxtable and Wanda Edmonds.



The Pilot Club of Lawrence met Aug. 13 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for its monthly meeting.

Members discussed the "Brain Awareness" program initiated by Pilot International. As part of the program, club members present information about brain protection and safety to preschool and kindergarten children. Members also were asked to donate single-knit fabric to make "Gifts of Love," which are turbans that are given to chemotherapy patients.

Members voted on the Club Sweetheart, who will be announced at the September meeting.

Marilyn Bristol, club president, and Merna Dean gave a report on attending the Pilot International Convention in Denver.

Marie Slagle discussed preparations for the District Fall Council, which will be Sept. 8-9 in Lawrence.

For the September meeting, members and their families will meet at Centennial Park for a picnic.
