The Vinland Valley 4-H Club met Aug. 6 at the Baldwin Public Pool. The meeting was called to order by Michael Moore, president, and Leah Hoelscher, vice president. Elizabeth Bartlow, Bailey Brown and Kelly Baker led the club in singing "Home on the Range."

Brad Wilson, parliamentarian, provided pool safety tips.

Dale Baker, Dennis Craig and Andrew Bartlow, members enrolled in the boys clothing buymanship project, talked about the clothing they entered in the Douglas County Free Fair.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at Vinland School. New officers will be elected.



The August meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club was called to order by Heather Hinshaw, president, at the Doug Berg Farm. Members answered roll call by naming their highlight from this year's Douglas County Free Fair.

Mary Berg, community leader, thanked members who helped during the fair. She reminded members of the Sept. 10 deadline for KAA records, pin applications and key award applications. She also said that adult volunteers are needed Oct. 4 for county record book screenings at the Deal Six Auditorium.

Marla Metsker gave a parliamentarian report on what phrases not to use when making a motion.

Members enrolled in the rocketry project talked about their fair projects and then launched a rocket.

Members assembled comfort packs for the American Red Cross as a community service project. Members also donated supplies for the Lawrence Humane Society.
