Wellsville Services for Goldena C. Chilton, 89, Overland Park, formerly of Wellsville, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Wilson and Son Chapel, Wellsville. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Chilton died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.

She was born May 13, 1912, in rural Paola, the daughter of George Lee and Mary Adeline (Smith) Chappell. She graduated from Paola High School in 1929. She graduated from Ottawa University in 1961 with an elementary education degree.

She taught in several country schools and at the Wellsville Elementary schools for about 30 years. She was a member of Wellsville Baptist Church, Wellsville Garden Club, Crescent Club and the Wellsville Senior Center. She was involved in planning and construction of the center.

Mrs. Chilton spent much time at the Wellsville Library reading stories to children and owned and operated a gift store called Chilton's Gifts for many years.

She married Henry Britton Chilton on May 6, 1934, in Paola. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lynn Nickerson, Overland Park; a son, Britton Chilton, Baldwin; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Her parents, two sisters and a brother died earlier.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends.
