Former professor pledges money to KU

August 11, 2001

A former Kansas University School of Medicine professor and his wife have announced gifts to the school's history and philosophy of medicine department and the department of surgery.

Stanley and Beth Friesen of Prairie Village have created a charitable gift annuity with the KU Endowment Assnociation, meaning they will donate the money upon their deaths. At their request, the endowment association did not release the amounts of the gifts.

Stanley Friesen was a 1943 KU graduate and professor of surgery from 1949 to 1989. He also served as a lecturer and professor in history and philosophy of medicine from 1987 to 1989, when he retired.

Part of the money donated will support a lectureship in the history and philosophy of medicine department.
