Jewish center plans Shabbat evening

The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive, will have a Shabbat evening to celebrate members who have contributed to the community and welcome new members.

Events will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 17. Board installation will follow at 7:15 p.m. An all-music Shiray Shabbat service begins at 7:45 p.m., followed by an Oneg refreshments and dessert at 8:30 p.m.

Corpus Christi offers benedictine class

Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., will offer a benedictine studies class, "Christian Morality."

The class will meet for its first session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and continue at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 and 28 and Sept. 4 and 11.

First Presbyterian youth to plan year

The youth ministry at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will meet after church services Sunday for a kickoff and planning event.

During "Youthvision 2001-2002," church members in grades 6-12 will discuss the youth ministry, plan for the next year and suggest improvements.

The meeting includes a potluck dinner. Attendees should bring a potluck dish to share and table service.

Missionary to share stories of experience

Russell Slaugh will report on his recent mission during the sacrament meeting of the Lawrence 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The ward will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at 3615 W. 10th St.

Slaugh, 1998 Free State High School graduate, served in the Germany/Dusseldorf mission for two years. He is the son of Carl and Cheryl Slaugh of Lawrence.

Plymouth plans white elephant sale

Plymouth Congregational Church will offer a white elephant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mayflower Room at the church, 925 Vt.

Prophetic ministry meets at Mustard Seed

The prophetic ministry at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

The Connection will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church before traveling to Baldwin for a swimming party.

Ministry couple to visit Lawrence Aglow

Dan and Kathy Wunrow will be guest presenters at this month's Lawrence Aglow meeting.

The Wunrows founded a ministry called "His Ambassadors to the Nations."

The group will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Vermont Towers, 11th and Vermont streets. For more information, call 597-5520.

St. Margaret's sets seminar, dinner

St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., plans a lay reader and chalice bearer training seminar after the 10:30 Sunday service.

Ninth Street slates music workshop

Guest clinician Steven Jones of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wichita will be featured during a four-night music workshop at Ninth Street Baptist Church, 847 Ohio.

Workshops will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Aug. 17. They will conclude with a musical production at 6 p.m. Aug. 18.

Fair features music ministries

Osage City The Isaacs will be in concert Wednesday at the Osage City Fair. The outdoor concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Jones Park grandstand.

For 28 years, the Isaacs have traveled throughout the United States ministering in word and song.
