To the editor:
Thank you Bryant M. Denning for stating what many people think: the public schools start too early in August. While the students may not be expected to be in the classroom until Aug.15 or 16, their parents are expected to be in town to pay their fees the week before classes begin. Some students are expected to be in town for an ID picture before school starts.
I trust that the calendar committee works hard to find a calendar that meets the variety of needs of the school district. School ends on May 24 this academic year which is probably responding to a concern for past Memorial Day school attendance. I do not want to start back to school in mid to early August! I wonder how early in August we will start back to school in 2002.
