Teen-ager to show paintings at Java Dive

Erica Mahinay, 15, will show a collection of her paintings in an exhibit titled "movement through shadow" in the gallery at Java Dive, 10 E. Ninth St.

The exhibit runs through Aug. 31 and can be viewed during business hours.

New dean announced at music conservatory

Kansas City, Mo. Randall Pembrook as been appointed dean of the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Pembrook has been at the conservatory since 1987. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance and a doctorate in music education.

He begins his new duties on Sept. 1.

KC Symphony names director of development

Kansas City, Mo. Pat Oppenheimer has been appointed director of development at the Kansas City Symphony. She began her duties July 16.

Oppenheimer previously worked as vice president of development of Midwest Bioethics Center in Kansas City. She also has worked at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and the Kansas City Museum/Science City at Union Station.

Recently, the symphony announced it had raised nearly $6 million in its first major endowment effort since the orchestra was founded in 1982.

The campaign, spurred by a $1.85 million matching grant from the Missouri Cultural Trust, brings the orchestra's total endowment to $20 million.
