Thelma Whiteside services

Mrs. Whiteside died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.

She was born April 2, 1919, in Stull, the daughter of William Alexandria and Ina (Clayborne) Kizer. She was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. She attended Deer Creek School District No. 48. She taught Sunday school, Training Union and Missionary Union. She was president of Missionary Union at First Regular Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for Kansas University housing for 30 years. She retired in 1989.

She married Wilbert Whiteside on March 1, 1941, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jeannie Verner, Sioux Falls, S.D.; five sisters, Maxine Newman and Bertha Nelson, both of Lawrence, Ruby Moore and Wilma Kizer, both of Topeka, and Celestia Howard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

A daughter, Ina Unseld, died Jan. 1, 1989.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimers Assn., and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
