A wrongful death lawsuit was filed recently against two Lawrence physicians by family members of a woman who died in 1999 after an incident involving a horse.
The lawsuit, filed July 24 in Douglas County District Court, alleges Drs. Paul D. Loney and Scott E. Patrick were negligent in their assessment and treatment of Cindy Marie Young.
Judgment for more than $75,000 is sought.
Loney is a LMH Emergency Department physician. Patrick is a radiologist with Radiologic Professional Services, 1112 W. Sixth St.
The lawsuit maintains that Young, Lawrence, was injured Sept. 5, 1999, when she was hit in the head by the handle of pitch fork a horse stepped on. She sought treatment at the LMH emergency room.
The lawsuit alleges that Loney failed to properly evaluate and diagnose Young's injury to the carotid artery and Patrick failed to properly or timely interpret a CT scan of the injury.
The lawsuit alleges Young died on Sept. 30, 1999, as a result of the doctors' negligence.
The lawsuit was filed by Kayla Marie LeFever, Baldwin, a minor and daughter of Young; Young's sons, Rodney Dean Miller, Hamilton, and Jerrod Ray Miller, Lawrence; and Perry LeFever, Baldwin, Kayla's father and administrator of Young's estate.
Loney declined to comment on the lawsuit. Patrick could not be reached for comment. No trial date has been set.
