— Kansas University's Pete Smart allowed just two runs off 10 hits, but was outdueled by Texas Tech's Chris Phillips in the Red Raiders' 2-1 baseball victory over the Jayhawks on Saturday at Dan Law Field.

Phillips (11-3) allowed just one unearned run off five hits over the full nine innings. Both runs surrendered by Smart (8-3) were earned, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, when Byron Smith lofted a sacrifice fly to score Gera Alvarez.

"Once again, Peter Smart was wonderful on the mound and he gave us a chance to win," KU coach Bobby Randall said. "Offensively, we didn't do enough to get the victory."

Phillips held Kansas scoreless through six innings before Jayhawks tied the game in the seventh. Brent Del Chiaro brought Jesse Gremminger home with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Kansas fell to 19-28 overall, 5-21 in the Big 12; Tech improved to 34-15-1, 16-9-1.
