Services for George E. Weber, 80, Lawrence, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Heights Christian Church, Lawrence. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery in Falls City, Neb.

Mr. Weber died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Lawrence, the son of George and Mabel (Jones) Weber.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1947. During World War II, he was a chief gunner's mate on destroyers and transport ships. Mr. Weber also served in the Army from 1949 to 1964. He received a field commission while in Korea with the Third Infantry Division, along with the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman badge.

He established and commanded the Samuel J. Churchill Army Reserve Center in Lawrence from 1959 to 1964.

After retiring from the military, Mr. Weber completed his bachelor's degree in business administration at Kansas University. He worked several years as an accountant at the Sunflower Army Ammunition plant in DeSoto. He then served as an auditor for the Kansas Department of Education.

Mr. Weber was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Lawrence Heights Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer.

He married Charlotte Rholene Eickhoff in 1953 in Falls City, Neb. She died. He was also preceded in death by a son, George.

Survivors include two sons, John, Topeka, and Ross, Lawrence; a daughter, Bonnie Worthington, Overland Park; a stepsister, Wilma Otto, Berlin, Wis.; a half brother, Jim Weber, Chicago; four half sisters, Mary Johnson, Pat Parsley, Dorothy Weber and Ann Langford, all of Harrison, Ark.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Heights Christian Church.

The family suggests memorials to the Visiting Nurses Assn., in care of the funeral home.
