FSHS boys track 2nd, girls 8th at Aquinas

April 29, 2001

— Free State High's Richie Dunlop set a school record in the discus to pace the Firebirds to a second-place finish at the OP Aquinas Invitational on Friday.

Dunlop, whose throw covered 140-5, also was part of the event-winning thrower relay team. Other first-place finishes were turned in by the 3200 relay of Nick Ens, Eric Southard, Hiral Bhakta, and Justin White; and Pat Johnson in the long jump.

"This was a great day for the guys," FSHS coach Steve Heffernan said. "We had several breakthroughs in the throws, distance and sprints. To finish second in the team standings is a surprise. We tried people in different events today and I didn't expect us to finish that high."

Caitlin Wisler paced the girls, finishing first and fifth in the javelin and shot put respectively. Results on page 13C.
