More than 200 participants of all ages were drawn to Saturday's Douglas County AIDS Project Walk
Money raised from the 3.1-mile fund-raiser goes toward research, AIDS prevention and to help those living with AIDS in Franklin, Douglas and Jefferson counties.
Tandy Walsch, committee chair for the Douglas County AIDS Project, said she was pleased with the turnout, and was especially thankful for the support from Kansas University's greek organizations.
"Their support has been amazing," Walsch said. "They have kind of adopted this cause as theirs as well."
Sidney Hardgrove, director of the Douglas County Aids Project, said she also was impressed with the greek support, but wanted to extend her appreciation to the Lawrence community as well.
"They have been phenomenally generous," she said.
Walsch said she hoped the event would raise $10,500.
Late Saturday, she said DCAP had raised $6,500 from individual pledges.
She said officials still needed to count the corporate pledges.
