Murl Borders

Mass of Christian burial for Murl R. Borders, 88, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lawrence. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lawrence.

Mrs. Borders died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at her home.

She was born Jan. 4, 1913, in rural Hartford, the daughter of Robert Mortimer and Cecelia (Sutton) Hoover. She moved to Lawrence in 1936.

Mrs. Borders was a beautician and later worked in the cafeteria at Centennial School.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

She married Blaine Borders on April 24, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. He died April 29, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Borders, Topeka, and Terry Borders, Lawrence; a sister, Mamie Cunningham, Emporia; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to St. John's Church or to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
