The workshop, "Turning Spaces Into Quality Places: Successful Communities By Design," will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library's auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
Scott Paszkiewicz, environmental planner with Mid-America Regional Council, will discuss 20 principles for quality places that represent what is needed to design successful neighborhoods.
The workshop is sponsored by Kaw Valley Heritage Alliance, K-State Research and Extension, and Kansas University School of Architecture and Urban Design.

Alternative Breaks sets
Alternative Weekend Breaks will have its fourth annual year-end celebration Thursday to raise funds for the Kansas Alternative Breaks Program.
The event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Kansas Union Ballroom. The dinner will be catered and attendants can eat all the pancakes they want for $5.
A slide show presentation, speakers and displays will highlight this year's alternative break trips.
