All-Star voting begins for July 30 ballgame

Seattle - Fan voting began Sunday for the All-Star game, to be played July 10 at Safeco Field.

Fans can vote at the 30 major league ballparks, on the Internet starting May 2 and at stores starting May 7. Baseball said more than 12 million ballots will be distributed in foreign countries and Puerto Rico.

Fans pick the starting lineups except for pitchers and the NL designated hitter. The rest of the rosters are picked by the managers the New York Yankees' Joe Torre and the New York Mets' Bobby Valentine.

Rangers activate Kapler

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers activated center fielder Gabe Kapler from the disabled list Sunday and he was in the starting lineup against Oakland. Kapler tore his right quadriceps muscle March 22 while running the bases during a spring training game. He also missed a month early last season with a tear in the same muscle. Rangers manager Johnny Oates recalled Kapler a day early from his rehabilitation assignment at Double A Tulsa after Chad Curtis strained his right hamstring Saturday night.
