Dr. Mark Praeger, a Lawrence physician, has been appointed to serve on the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees.

Praeger replaces Dr. Matt Stein, a Lawrence physician who resigned to become a staff oncologist in LMH's Oncology Center.

"I am flattered and honored to be asked to participate on the board," Praeger said. "I understand the commitment involved and hope I can help bring an understanding of medical issues to a mostly nonmedical board."

Praeger, a partner in Law-rence Surgery Associates, has been a general surgeon at LMH since 1977, when he moved to Lawrence after serving 10 years in the Army Medical Corps.

A Kansas University and KU Medical Center graduate, he serves as chairman of the Board of Governors Kansas Health Care Stabilization Fund and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

His wife is state Sen. Sandy Praeger, R-Lawrence.
