Commercial Federal Bank has named Lisa Klinkefus as regional manager.
Klinkefus, also a vice president, oversees the bank's Kansas City region, which has 22 branch locations including one in Lawrence.
She has served as a branch manager since 1993. She previously worked for AmerUs Bank, then joined Commercial Federal when the company acquired AmerUs in 1998.
Honors and awards
Nancy Kuehler, Lawrence, has been named Rural Water Business Manager of the Year by the Kansas Rural Water Assn.
Kuehler leads Douglas County Rural Water District No. 1, a 450-customer system west of Lawrence. The district only has one other employee. She has worked for the district for 10 years.
Kuehler received the award during the association's annual conference March 27-29 in Wichita.
Also during the conference, Jefferson County Rural Water District No. 13 received a first-place honor for having the "best tasting water in Kansas."
Mark Roberts, Lawrence, recently was honored during a national sales and education conference sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans.
Roberts qualified for the President's Cabinet, in recognition of outstanding business performance in 2000. He also was honored for his support of AAL local volunteer groups.
Roberts is a district representative with Mike Mickelson and Associates, Independence, Mo. He serves Lutherans in Lawrence and other area communities. He has been with the field staff for four years and has been honored by the organization every year for outstanding sales and service to AAL members.
AAL, a Fortune 500 organization based in Appleton, Wis., is a fraternal benefit society with 1.8 million members who join together for insurance, educational and volunteer opportunities.
The North Midcontinent Petroleum Technology Transfer Council in Lawrence is sponsoring a workshop called "Optimized Exploitation and Horizontal Well Technologies for Independent Operators," May 9-10 in Wichita.
The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 9 and from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 10.
It will provide an overview of the application capabilities and limitations of modern exploitation technologies with a primary focus on horizontal well design and application. The focus will be on marginal settings and the misconceptions held by independent operators in respect to the applicability, cost, technical risk and challenges inherent in applying these technologies.
The cost is $100, which covers course materials, lunch, refreshments and social reception. Pre-registration is encouraged. An open registration will be conducted from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. May 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 400 W. Waterman, where the workshop will be conducted.

The Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center will present a seminar, "How to Better Manage Inventories and Cycle Counts," on Friday, April 20, in Kansas City, Mo.
The seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at its Kansas City office, 1575 N. Universal Ave., Suite 130, Lakeside Plaza I.
The seminar will show participants how to eliminate shortages, write-offs and other costly blunders.
MAMTC also is sponsoring another seminar, "How to Perform Value Stream Mapping to Identify and Eliminate Waste," Wednesday, April 25, in Lenexa.
The seminar will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Chesterfield Enterprise Center, 743 Spirit 40 Park Drive.
The seminar will show attendees how to uncover hidden waste and eliminate its sources through value stream mapping.
