Memorial services for Wilbur R. "Bill" Marckley, 84, Lawrence will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Mr. Marckley died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.
He was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Lawrence, the son of Roland R. and Lois (Lindell) Marckley.
He was a lifelong Lawrence resident.
He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1935 and attended Kansas University. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Marckley worked for Jack Soden Garage before becoming a pressman for Kansas Color Press, where he worked for 30 years. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Dorsey-Liberty Post No.14 of the American Legion. He also was involved in a coffee club and a bowling league.
He married Wilma Bingham Dec. 24, 1953, in Eudora. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include one sister, Elda Mae Marckley, Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice House of Topeka, sent in care of the mortuary.
