A Lawrence public school district administrator who coordinates special-education programs accepted a research and teaching job at Baylor University.
Joe Nyre will become director of Baylor's new center for education evaluation and research in July. He also will teach at the private school in Waco, Tex.
"It's a positive career move for me," said Nyre, Lawrence's assistant director of special services.
Before departing, Nyre expects the district to finish a long-range plan for special education. It will set a baseline for special education services and staffing in district schools, he said.
Nyre said he was gratified the district offered him the top special-education administrative job, part of an ongoing reorganization of central administration staff.
