Old Home Town - 25, 40, and 100 years ago today

September 23, 2000

In 1975 - Summer had bowed out, officially, in cool fashion, with a night-time low of 48 and a daytime high barely into the 60s. Recent weather had been "fantastic" for most residents.

Douglas County commissioner I.J. Stoneback said he would not seek re-election in 1976.

In 1990 - The Kansas University bicentennial committee gave its full suport to a project to beautify and call attention to the Pioneer Cemetery on the west portion of the campus.

In 1960 - On Sept. 23, 1900, the Lawrence World observed, "To lose by one's own ignorance or carelessness is more mortifying than to lose by the dishonesty of another."
