Services for Marshall Wayne Dutton, 86, Lawrence, will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Dutton died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of complications from cancer.
He was born April 22, 1914, in Smith County, son of Clara Ackley and Thomas Moore Dutton. He attended school in Portis and earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural science from Kansas State University in 1938. He moved to Lawrence in 1969 from Colby.
Mr. Dutton served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had taught vocational agriculture in Colby. After the war, he established and operated a business to improve water conservation on farms in the Norton area.
He then worked as a building contractor and sheep farmer, and joined a direct-write insurance company in 1956.
He and his wife started the Dutton Independent Insurance Co. in 1979.
He married Ethelyn Dimmitt on May 31, 1941. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include five daughters, Marsha Dutton, Athens, Ohio, Kathleen Lange, Topeka, Judith Dutton and Tamara Dutton, both of Lawrence, and Daryl Ann Dutton Cody, Topanga, Calif.; a son, Bill, Pasco, Wash.; two brothers, Kirk, Topeka, and Paul, Denver; a sister, Betty Lull, Smith Center; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A grandson died earlier.
