Turning up the turnout

How can voter turnout be improved? Well, crooked politicians, here and in other countries, have been caught paying people to vote for them. But that's cheating.

Some people suggest letting people vote by computer. On-line voting is a way to reach people who can't get to the polls because of long commutes, busy work schedules or disabilities.

Others suggest making voting the law. In some countries (such as Costa Rica), it's against the law not to vote. (No one is suggesting this for the United States yet!)

But here's a suggest that might really work: Get children interested in politics and voting. Some groups want children to bug their parents to vote. One group, called Kids Voting USA (www.kidsvotingusa.org), wants children to go with their parents to the polling place on Election Day.
