Ottawa — Services for Theodore K. Smith, 81, Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5901, Ottawa, will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Pomona.
Mr. Smith died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa.
He was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Williamsburg, the son of Silas J. and Mary B. (Kirkman) Smith. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1936.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the following decorations and citations: American Defense Service Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Service Arrowhead Pacific Theater decoration.
He was a dairy farmer, and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, Pomona; Greenwood Grange; Mid-American Dairyman's Assn., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5901.
He also had served as a trustee for Greenwood Township for many years.
He married Lois E. Thorsland on March 1, 1956, in San Angelo, Tex. She died Jan. 18, 1982.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Gilges, Baldwin, Linda Reed, Ottawa, and, Nancy Mitchell, Meade; two sisters, Betty Heinlein, Sedan, and Cleda Rea, Homewood; two brothers, Billy Smith, Kansas City, Mo., and Larry Smith, Pomona; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
