Mabelle Hutchings

Memorial services for Mabelle Lillian Hutchings, 95, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.

Mrs. Hutchings died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence.

She was born Sept. 5, 1905, in Roans Prairie, Navasota, Tex., the daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Anderson) Howell. She moved to Lawrence in 1982 from Monterey, Calif.

She attended business school in Dallas, and at Monterey (Calif.) Peninsula Junior College, University of Montana and Kansas University, taking classes until she was 90.

She and her husband, Dr. Rome Clark Hutchings, managed a veterinary hospital in Monterey, Calif. Mrs. Hutchings was a writer, and was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, and First Church, Lawrence. She was a registered Christian Science practitioner for 50 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Ione Catherine Unruh, Lawrence, and Romanda Virginia Wilson, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Wynne Harrison Hutchings, Monterey, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Clerk of the Mother Church, 175 Huntington Ave., Boston 02115-3187.
