Services for Cecilia O. Pearson, 98, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Miss Pearson died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Jan. 10, 1902, in Halstead, the daughter of Robert Henry and Clara Belle (Ferguson) Pearson. She graduated from Bethel College, Newton, did graduate work at Wichita State University, and received a master's degree from Kansas University. She moved to Lawrence in 1943.
Miss Pearson taught third grade at Cordley School and was principal at Woodlawn and East Heights schools.
She was a charter member and former president of the Lawrence chapter of the International Association of Reading; a former member and former president of the Lawrence chapter of the Association of Childhood Education; a former member and president of the Lawrence Education Assn.; a charter member of the Kansas Association of Elementary Librarians; and a member of the Kansas State Teachers Assn.
Miss Pearson was also a life member of the National Education Assn.; a member and former president of the Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma professional sorority; a member and former president of the Douglas County Retired Teachers; a 50-year member and former worthy matron of Chapter 407, Order of the Eastern Star, Halstead; and a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Bible group and Book group, and a former member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include a nephew, Lawrence Monte Pearson, Bella Vista, Ark.; and a niece, Julianne Wilson, Omaha, Neb.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
