Harold and Mary Conner

Harold "Dutch" and Mary Conner, Lawrence, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Oct. 6, 2000.

They were married Oct. 6, 1943, in Lawrence and have lived in the Lawrence area since 1946.

Melvin and Nina Wehner

Melvin and Nina Wehner, Eudora, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Kim's Barn, 934 E. 2100 Road, Eudora. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the celebration.

Melvin Wehner and Nina Koci were married Oct. 12, 1950, at Sacred Heart Parish in Delia.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He owned and operated grocery stores in St. Marys and Sunflower Village. He was a licensed real estate agent and then owned Wehner Retail Liquor in Lawrence. He retired in May 2000.

Nina helped in the family grocery store and then was employed at OCL (M-PACT) in Eudora for 15 years. She retired in 1995.

Hosts for the reception are the couple's children: Doug and Ginger Wehner and Greg and Beth Wehner, all of Lawrence, and Karen and David Hull, Wamego, and their seven grandchildren.

The couple requests no gifts.

James and Betty Nicolay

James and Betty Nicolay, Baldwin, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Baldwin High School cafeteria.

Serving as the event's hosts will be their children: Mr. and Mrs. Rod Anderson, Carbondale, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nicolay and Mr. and Mrs. John Gottstein, all of Baldwin.

James Nicolay and Betty Burd were married Oct. 12, 1940, in Osage City. They lived in the Lyndon area during the early years of their married life. They later owned and operated the Corner Grocery and Quality Oil Station north of Baldwin Junction for several years.

Mr. Nicolay retired from the State Revenue Department in 1981. Mrs. Nicolay retired in 1974 from the Medical Arts Center in Lawrence where she worked as a medical assistant.

They have eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The couple requests no gifts.

Alden and Mariann Bradley

Alden and Mariann Bradley, Eudora, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to Augusta, Ga., and Edisto Island, S.C., later this month.

The couple were married Oct. 9, 1960, in Augusta, Ga.

Alden retired after working at Farmland Industries for 36 years. Alden and Mariann are now full-time ranchers with their Hereford cattle.

The couple have three children: Alden Bradley Jr., Shawnee, and Allen Bradley and Debbie Grosdidier, both of Eudora. They have two granddaughters.
