Topeka John Force closed qualifying Saturday for the NHRA with the best Funny Car lap of the weekend, good enough for his ninth No. 1 position this season and 98th of his career.
Gary Scelzi, Jeg Coughlin and Bob Panella also will lead their respective categories into final eliminations Sunday for the $1.9 million Advance Auto Parts Nationals.
Force clocked a 4.853-second run at 307.23 mph. Scelzi claimed his eighth top qualifying position of the season and 26th of his career in Top Fuel, covering the quarter-mile distance in 4.604 at 309.98.
Coughlin took his second top spot of the season in Pro Stock, posting a 6.922 at 197.39. Panella scored his seventh in Pro Stock Truck.
A headwind blew straight down the quarter-mile strip during the final two sessions.
