IN 1960

The Douglas County Commission tabled indefinitely a proposal to have the city annex the 4-H Fairgrounds after a lengthy and at times heated protest by nearly 50 county residents. More meetings were planned, but it appeared unlikely the proposal would be approved in the face of strong opposition.

Kansas University was "chancellorless" for a brief time. Franklin D. Murphy had just left for Los Angeles to become chancellor at UCLA and Clarke Wescoe, his successor, was not due to take office until July 1. Wescoe was wrapping up his job as dean of the KU Medical School in Kansas City and was not due until July.
