Wine-tasting event to benefit Cottonwood

June 21, 2000

Salute! A Festival of Wine and Food is back by popular demand in Lawrence.

The event is a benefit for Cottonwood Inc., a nonprofit provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

This public wine and food extravaganza offers consumers an opportunity to sample more than 200 wines from some of the world's leading vintners.

Salute!, sponsored by Standard Beverage Corporation, a Kansas distributor of spirits, wine and beer, will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 8 at Abe and Jake's Landing, the historical barbed wire building in downtown Lawrence. Attendees will sample fine wines as well as cuisine from area restaurants and caterers. The event will also feature a live auction and a silent auction.

Tickets to Salute! are $50 per person and include a commemorative wine glass, program guide/bid paddle and gourmet cuisine from Circle S Ranch, Fifi's, Hereford House, Liz Karr Catering, Pachamama's, Paisano's, Shalor's and Teller's. Tickets are available through Cottonwood Inc. at (785) 840-1604. Attendees must be 21.

This year, the event will also include a separate wine dinner on July 7 at Pachamama's. Bert Wolfson from J. Lohr Winery in San Jose, Calif., will be the celebrity vintner. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Wolfson and enjoy an elaborate multi-course gourmet meal prepared by Pachamama's. The meal will be paired with complementing varietals from the J. Lohr Winery. Tickets are $100 per person; reservations are required. Call (785) 840-1604 to reserve a table or individual seats.
