Bland pushes past defending champion

Newcastle, Northern Ireland South Africa's John Bland took a one-shot lead over Christy O'Connor Jr., who beat him to the title 12 months ago, after the third round of the Senior British Open on Saturday

Bland, 54, shot an even-par 71 for a three-round total of 7-under 206.

Fleisher extends lead in Long Island Classic

Jericho, N.Y. Bruce Fleisher followed his course-record 63 with a 6-under-par 66 Saturday, extending his lead in the Long Island Classic to three strokes.

The defending champion closed his second round with birdies on three of the last four holes, including a near hole-in-one on the 165-yard 18th, and was at 15-under 129.

Allen Doyle, who finished second in this Senior PGA Tour event last year, had a run of five straight birdies on the back nine at Meadow Brook Club and his 64 had him at 12 under.

Leaney leads Dutch

Noordwijk, Netherlands Stephen Leaney had eight birdies en route to a 7-under 65 Saturday to take a three-shot lead after the third round of the $1.3 million Dutch Open. Leaney, 15-under for the tournament, overtook fellow Australian and second-round leader Stephen Allan (69), who is alone in second place at 12-under.
