NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS TERRY HOOD, son of Howard Hood, Lawrence, recently received his third Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Hopper, home ported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

While serving as leading ship's serviceman and records keeper, Hood helped his division successfully complete an evaluation with a score of 94.13 percent.

Hood, a 1981 graduate of Lawrence High School, joined the Navy in Nov. 1983.

SAMUEL HUBBARD joined the United States Army and will serve a six year enlistment as a medium helicopter repairer.

Pvt. Hubbard, son of Julie Hubbard, Lawrence, and Richard Hubbard, Reading, is a graduate of Lawrence Free State High School. He departed July 13 for Fort Knox, Ky., where he will begin basic training. He will continue with advanced individual training at Fort Eustis, Va.
