Montgomery injured; Padres promote Maurer

Denver San Diego Padres reliever Steve Montgomery was placed on the disabled list for the second time this season with a strained right shoulder Friday and was replaced on the roster by left-hander Dave Maurer from Triple-A Las Vegas.

To make room for Maurer on the 40-man roster, the club transferred right-hander Brian Boehringer from the 15-Day DL to the 60-day DL.

Maurer, 12-12 with a 3.04 ERA in 173 career minor league appearances, was to be available Friday when the Padres opened a series against Colorado.
