TAMARA KOONTZ, daughter of Phillip and Deborah Koontz, Overbrook, graduated with honors from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology.
ANDY JENSEN, BEN JENSEN, Nathan Beard and Joanna Beard, all of Lawrence, and Nathan Schwepler, Perry, were named to the dean's list at Sterling College in Sterling. They earned at least a 3.5 grade point average.
HEATHER BARLAND, a student at the University of Chicago, is spending the summer in Irbid, Jordan, studying Arabic language at Yarmouk University. She plans to travel to Egypt before returning to Lawrence. She is the daughter of Jana and Scott Montgomery, Lawrence.
LAUREN RHOADES, Lawrence, attended Spectacles Math and Science Camp in June at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. Rhoades, the daughter of Barry Rhoades, attends Quail Run School. Rhoades worked in the college's science labs, electronic classrooms, arboretum and wildlife sanctuary. She studied with math and science faculty members.
JENN HEPPERT AND LACEY VENTSAM, recently completed Level 2 of the Future Astronaut Training program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. The weeklong camp included a trip to Houston, Tex., to tour NASA's Johnson Space Center.

ELISE SCHNOSE, Lawrence, attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine June 18-28 in Boston. Having demonstrated academic achievement and an interest in a career related to science and health, Schnose joined more than 400 high school juniors and seniors from the United States at the conference. Students learned about medical ethics, the global effects of infectious disease, genetic research and public.
LAWRENCE RESIDENT CAROLYN POWELL, student at Washburn University School of Law, was recently appointed as an American Bar Assn. (ABA) law student liaison to the Unmet Needs of Children: America's Children at Risk project.
The appointment was based on her qualifications and dedicated interest in becoming a national representative of the division. Powell will serve as a liaison from July 2000 to May 2001. As liaison, she will serve in dual capacities, a voice of the division to the ABA entity and a voice of the ABA entity to the division.
THE 42ND ANNUAL W.A. AND MARGARET PINE REUNION was July 9 at the Union Pacific Depot in Lawrence. There were 55 descendants and guests who attended the covered dish luncheon, hosted by the Cecil Pine Dicker family.
