Physicians to discuss women's health

Two Lawrence physicians will talk about two important topics in women's health during a Health Trip session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21 at the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, 200 Maine.

Dr. Michael Zabel will present "Heart Health for Women Over 50," and Dr. Marilee McGinness will present "Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment." Breast models will be available so participants can assess their skill in self-examination.

The workshop costs $5 and includes a light lunch. Reservations must be made by Friday.

To register, send your name, address, phone number and fee to Shirley Grubbs, 200 Maine, Suite B, Lawrence 66044. For more information about joining Health Trip, call Grubbs at 843-0721.

Arts center to celebrate Christmas in July

The Lawrence Arts Center's Christmas in July fund-raiser will be from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Marcia and Stephen Hill's home, which overlooks Lawrence from a bluff near Eighth and Michigan streets.

The event will include an open bar, hors d' oeurves, a festive Christmas atmosphere with some holiday decorations for sale, music and dancing, as well as a Christmas in July box auction.

Seventeen artists have donated hand-made boxes varying in size and purpose from a small sterling silver box to a large wooden toy box.

Christmas in July is organized by the Hearts for the Arts, an auxiliary for the arts center. Last year's proceeds from Hearts for the Arts events provided $10,500 toward scholarships for preschool, Summer Youth Theatre and the arts and dance programs.

Admission to the event is $50 per person or $40 for Lawrence Arts Center members. To make a reservation, call the center at 843-2787. For more information, contact Christmas in July co-chairs Susan Tate at 843-2787 or Carolyn Church at 842-4207.
