Agencies provide assistance to homeless

December 25, 2000

Three agencies in Lawrence cater to the needs of people who are homeless.

The Salvation Army, 946 N.H., the Community Drop-in Center, 214 W. 10th St., and Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen, 1000 Ky.

The Salvation Army operates a community emergency shelter during the winter months. People who are homeless, including families, may get a light meal, and sleep for the night. There are separate sleeping areas for men, women and families. The Salvation Army also works to connect those needing assistance with other area social service agencies.

The Community Drop-in Center provides a place for people to go on weekday mornings. They may do laundry and take showers. Shower facilities also are available at the Salvation Army. The Drop-in Center also provides connections to social service agencies.

LINK alternates with the Salvation Army in providing free lunches during the week.
