Topeka New information has led the Shawnee County sheriff's department to reactivate an investigation of the 1976 slaying of a young woman.
Tirell D. Ocobock, 18, was found beaten to death in April 1976 along a dirt road that investigators said was commonly known as a lover's lane.
Detectives said three bloody tree limbs found nearby may have been used to kill her. The body was naked from the waist up, and a sweater, a denim purse and a small dog were also discovered.
Lt. Don Christie said Tuesday that detectives had been pursuing leads in the case for about three months. He said that while the investigation was never closed, the probe was reactivated after receipt of new information. He said police hope advances in forensic technology will give them a better chance of finding the killer.
